Plantweb started in about 2002 with the objective of capturing images of all of the plants listed in Flowers of the Cape Peninsula by Mary Mathem-Kidd.

As I did not have a camera at the time, most of the pictures were captured on an HP flatbed scanner.  The black back ground chosen to make the files small and allow fast downloads of the 64k line.

Plantweb changed direction before capturing all of the Mary Matham-Kidd flowers, and started publishing images of all South African plants, mainly from the Fynbos Floral Kingdom.

After a long hiatus, hopefully plantweb will become more active.
