FIELD NOTES / SOUTH AFRICA

Licence checks and complaints

Keep a clear record of the company, transaction and terms before escalating a gambling complaint.

Match the operator

Find the operating company in the website footer or terms and compare it with the named regulator's register. For a shop, compare the licensed premises and address. The NGB verified-operators portal is an official starting point, while provincial boards provide jurisdiction-specific information.

Use the operator's complaint process

Record the date, transaction reference, disputed amount and the exact rule in question. Ask for a written response through the official channel. Keep screenshots of the applicable terms and receipts. Do not share passwords or identification in a public review.

Escalate to the appropriate authority

If the operator's process does not resolve the issue, follow the relevant regulator's complaint procedure. An offshore authority's jurisdiction differs from a South African board's. A directory inclusion does not guarantee that either authority can recover money or resolve a dispute.
